Default The state of PvE charecters.

PvE Charecters. You know em, you hate em. My suggestion here is not a nerf in anykind, but instead something that would fix the game in my opinion. The basic problem with PvE charecters is Skills, plain and simple. Having unlocked nearly every skill the game for PvP, playing a PvE charecter seems rather pointless. If I am playing my warrior and want to sub assassin for Shadow Prison, I would have to go skill cap it when I have already done that through PvP unlocks. It seems rather redundent to have to unlock a skill that you already have. Making different combinations of skills/subs with a PvE charecter is rather impossible. Also, making a new charecter adds to the redundency by forcing me once again to buy skills I already posses.

It is my suggestion that PvE charecters should function like PvP charecters or Hero charecters when it comes to skills. I see no negatives to allowing my PvE charecters access to all the skills I've unlocked on the account. The only thing I could think of is having an elite skill when you aren't level 20, but the game isn't even hard enough for it to really matter. I know that Arenanet probably would never do this, but I'm very frustrated at not being able to use my PvE charecters to PvP just because they don't posses every single skill for their charecter.

Sorry, but /not signed

If you want fast, easy access to any skill set to just start fighting with, make PvP characters.

I don't think it's exactly redundant to have to earn/spend the 1k and the skill point and then go find the boss if you want to use that particular skill in PvE on that particular PvE character. I didn't find it redundant when I did that for some elites I want on multiple PvE characters, like Echo.

If you can automatically make a PvE character with a bar of any unlocked skill you choose ... what's the point of playing PvE? What is it you're looking to do so fast?

I think this would also be a major turn-off to new players that have no access to unlocks already. Especially if they tried the beginner arenas!

I fear such a change would eventually serve to drive people away from the game. There's a very delicate balance between impossibly hard and mind-numbingly boring in any game situation.

The PvP unlock packs make this even more worrisome. Buy PvP unlock pack for your account, so that you my make use any skill on your Level 1 PvE character anything automatically ... and for what? Or are you suggesting that we be allowed to create level 20 PvE characters immediately? If so, again I'd ask, for what?

Hmm, also such a change would make it waaayyy too easy on the bot farmers.

EDIT - Lyra's idea would be alright. As long as it only applies to PvP battles on the Battle Isles. Aside for being able to use the same skill slot, I still don't see why that would be different than rolling a new PvP character instead, but I don't see it as having as many unpleasant complications to PvE areas.

I have to disagree with this "we all hate PvE characters".

I love mine. I love PvE.

I get the distinct impression your the typical PvP'er who just doesnt like working for stuff because in PvP its all unlocked for you.

You want all your PvE characters to have access to ever PvP skills youve unlocked?

That would completely unbalance PvP to PvE and give you all a staggering advantage over us in PvE.

/notsigned

Even at the idea of letting PvE characters have access to every skill a previous PvE character has unlocked.

It would remove the entire point of replaying the game. You would a lvl 1 player with full access to all skills?

That would remove the entire point of the training islands/areas. People would be jumping into the game fully equipped and over-powered. What would you learn? What would you unlock?

You would eventually come to a point where you have no more skills to unlock accross your whole account.

You would have a character of each profession and own every skill, and it would remove the joy of creating a new one due to there being no need.

The entire PvE side of the game would die. PvE is roleplaying, its understandable to ask you to unlock and learn skills with every new character you create.

Just accept the fact you have to work for stuff in PvE and dont expect it all on a silver-platter.

The only allow you to do that with Heroes, because otherwise it would be too much to ask us to spend gold and time unlocking every skills for them.

/notsigned at that idea

It also removes one of the major gold sinks in the game. If we were no longer needing to buy skills or sigs of cap, then where would the gold go?

We would be adding to the number of rich players and prices would inflate.

Just a bad idea. If you don't like to PvE, then don't.

/not signed. A PvE character is all about development, which includes either (1) exploring/questing to gain new skills or (2) obtaining skill points in order to acquire those skills.

PvP isn't about character development - you have to be fully developed in order to be able to compete with other players at their level.

/signed if they get all skills unlocked WHILE IN PVP AREAS ONLY. This should be done just to make it fair... because think about it. Step out of character for a second.

John is playing a PvE warrior. He decides he wants some Heroes Ascent action. However, he realizes Healing Hands (:-P) is unlocked, but his warrior doesn't know it. He has two options:

1) Adventure into the lands and slay the beast with his skill of choice.
2) Spend 5 seconds to make a PvP character.

So JOHN is able to use Healing Hands right now, just not on his PvE character. No, his PvE character shouldn't have Healing Hands in PvE, but he should in PvP arenas, because it's only fair- if PvP-only characters can fight with every single skill unlocked on the accound, Roleplaying characters should be able to too, in the battle islands. Roleplaying and PvP-only characters should have NO advantage over eachother, except that Roleplaying characters can Roleplay.

being in posession of 17 pve chars, most of which are pvp capable, i can tell you, yeah its a pain in the ass to recap he same skills 5 times...but thats what pve is about.
it allows your chars a certain uniqueness from your others. if you dont find the gradual improvement of your characters to be the fun part of pve, i dont know what you're doing it for.

This idea of a universal unlocking of skill was suggested and brough up in several thread. I see both the pro and cons of it, with pro of cutting down the redundency and the con of it will make PvE character bring up not PvE.

I would say to keep in mind that what one enjoy in PvP doesn't always translate into what PvEer like, and visa versa.

For most part, I think allowing the PvE character to easier obtain pre-unlock skills would be good enough (but possibly with lower cost at price or skill points). For elites, while one could argue that caping is part of the PvE fun, I think some break could be given.

How about something like where you have to spend 2k and 3 skill points to instanly learn a previously unlock Elites? Something like that, where enforce a high cost, that make skill caping not require and optional, but cheapter. (or add better reward to skill caping)

On a minor side note, one idea foating around is to "Internal Itemize Skills". By that means where the skills (in perticularly the elites) are treated as an equipible Item, where you could swap between the characters (and you could have more than one). So say you cap Hundred Blades once befoe by character A, and now you want it on character B. You would de-equip that skill from A, and put it on B. Of couse, A now won't be able to use that skill, unless you go cap it again. And its only internal, so no external trading is allow.

Welll, thats just idea, and not fully finalize yet (and since it mean drastic change to the current system, I am sure most will dislike it) But thats what brainstorm are for.

you have to consider how arenanet see this

if someone is willing to use their time in capping a elite for pvp use in a pve char this will mean for him will the game will last longer.

this will increase the probability he will buy the next chapter.

for everone else there is a pvp char.

Skills system is fine. If you insist on making 1 or more of every class in PvE, then you will have your work cut out for you. I don't have any problems acquiring skills, and never have.
